Kenai Fjords Tours, half a mile up the same street at 1304 W. Fourth Avenue, has its own free car park with a free shuttle to the dock from 1 May — the clearest practical win Pursuit has over Major Marine, and it is worth more on a drive-in day than the few dollars it saves.

A perfect 5.0 on Captain’s Choice sits on 31 reviews; the flagship’s 4.86★ sits on 895. Treat the star and the sample as one number, not two.
Neither operator publishes a dress code, so take it from the water rather than the town: reviewers of the Extended Glacier Cruise say plainly that it is cold at the ice, in July as much as in May. Layers and a windproof shell, and something for rain — boats here cancel for waves, not weather. Every boat has heated indoor seating, and Major Marine’s three lend binoculars on board; Pursuit’s do not list them.
